On 23 June 2026, the KlimaWerkstatt@Berlin (KW@B) was officially inaugurated at the premises of NBB Netzgesellschaft Berlin-Brandenburg in Berlin-Weißensee by Franziska Giffey, Mayor of Berlin and Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises. The new education and innovation centre will actively support Berlin’s skilled trades sector in recruiting skilled workers, carrying out energy-efficient refurbishments and utilising renewable energy.
The KW@B was established five years ago as a joint initiative between Berlin’s two guilds for plumbing, heating and air conditioning (SHK) and electrical trades and ideas into energy. Since 2024, the KW@B has been part of the Berlin Action Programme for the Skilled Trades and, since its foundation, has been funded by the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises as part of the Solar City Master Plan.
Last year, the workshop was integrated into the training campus of the NBB Netzgesellschaft Berlin-Brandenburg at the Weißensee site and refurbished. The workshop and learning areas facilitate practical training for apprentices, skilled workers and businesses. This includes, on the one hand, further training and innovation workshops for Berlin’s skilled trades sector and, on the other, numerous career guidance events for school pupils in Berlin.
In designing and delivering these programmes, KW@B collaborates with Berlin-based educational partners such as the Berlin Chamber of Skilled Trades, Modul, Solarzentrum Berlin and the DGS Berlin-Brandenburg under the umbrella of the Masterplan Solarcity initiative. Further partnerships are in the pipeline.
Further information on the trainings and workshops and how to take part will be available from mid-September on the new website at www.klimaerkstatt.berlin.
