Modern agricultural irrigation is becoming increasingly important as agriculture accounts for a major share of global freshwater use and water stress is growing in many regions. The project addressed the lack of export-oriented market information on agricultural irrigation solutions by preparing a structured knowledge base for German companies and institutions active in water management, agricultural technology and international cooperation.

Together with German Water Partnership, ideas into energy developed a market and sector study on agricultural irrigation in Germany, ten compact country factsheets and three in-depth country profiles for France, Egypt and Uzbekistan. The publications analysed demand, framework conditions, irrigation practices, market opportunities and possible entry points for German small and medium-sized enterprises. The results were discussed with members of the German Water Partnership working group on agricultural irrigation and with other interested companies and multipliers in four online seminars.

The project strengthened the evidence base for further export-promotion and cooperation measures in agricultural water management. It also helped to make German expertise in efficient irrigation, digital monitoring, planning and water-saving technologies more visible in international markets with high water-stress challenges.
